What Do AI Agents Cost an Australian Small Business?

Sam Wilson · 31 Oct 2026 · 9 min read

It depends on the setup. Single-purpose AI tools like receptionist apps often cost tens to a few hundred dollars a month. Done-for-you setups usually add a one-off setup fee plus monthly management, and the AI platform is often billed separately. A managed multi-agent team costs more because people run, review and adjust it.

By the end of this guide you should be able to put two quotes side by side and see what's actually comparable. If you're still deciding whether to do it yourself, read our DIY vs done-for-you guide first. If you're still deciding whether AI is worth it at all, start with why SMEs need an AI strategy.

The four lines on any AI agent bill

Headline prices are hard to compare because they bundle different things. Almost every quote breaks down into four lines.

One-off setup

Discovery, connecting your accounts, writing the instructions and testing on real examples. Some providers charge this as a single install and then hand the system to you.

Monthly management or support

Ongoing work to keep the agents running: reviews, fixes when your tools change, adjustments and reporting. Some providers include it, some sell it as a retainer, and some don't offer it.

The AI platform or subscription

The software the agents run on. It's often billed separately by the platform, not by the provider who set it up, so ask whether a quote includes it.

Your own time

Someone has to review and approve drafts. This AI automation cost worksheet on dev.to puts staff time for review and maintenance in its own column, next to setup and subscription costs. It's worth doing the same whichever option you choose.

What Australian providers charge (as published, checked 31 Oct 2026)

These are examples of how some Australian providers publish their prices, listed in no particular order. They aren't a ranking, and they cover different scopes, so compare what's included rather than the headline figure.

Published AI setup and agent prices from Australian providers, checked 31 Oct 2026
Provider Model As published Source
Turnkey AI Setup plus monthly $1,500 setup, $300 a month (plus GST, as published). AI subscriptions billed separately. turnkeyai.com.au
Relaible One-off install, optional support Install $1,850 one-off; Install Plus $2,950; Embedded $4,800; Private Build from $12,000; support retainer from $320 a month. relaible.com.au
Integrity AI Packaged automations $1,950 AUD one-time setup (plus GST, as published); Virtual Sales Assistant $4,950; file sorter $750. integrityai.com.au
Rebotify Pilot pricing $500 migration plus $750 a month during the pilot (chatbot migration); a legal-intake example at $1,500 setup, then $1,250 a month during the current 14-day pilot. rebotify.com
Jejo.ai Managed agent (vendor's own framing) Managed agent $750 to $1,000 a month vs a DIY stack at $50 to $300 a month; "the build runs $5,000 to $12,000". Currency not stated. jejo.ai

Prices change, and providers treat GST differently: some publish prices plus GST, others don't say. Check the provider's own page before you rely on any figure. AI assistants will also give you price ranges if you ask them, but treat those as a starting point, not a quote.

Single-purpose AI receptionist apps sit at the lower end. They're often priced from tens to a few hundred dollars a month, because they do one job and you run them yourself.

Why a managed agent team costs more than a chatbot

A chatbot or receptionist app does one job on a fixed script, and you run it yourself. A managed agent team covers several jobs at once, such as the inbox, leads, follow-ups and admin.

People do ongoing work behind it: setting up each agent, reviewing it monthly, fixing things when your tools change, and reporting back to you. Approval workflows, where nothing goes out until you approve it, also take design and upkeep.

That doesn't make the cheaper tool the wrong buy. If you have one job, such as answering calls, and you're happy to run it yourself, a single-purpose app may be all you need.

DIY cost vs done-for-you cost

DIY usually has the lowest cash cost, but you pay in your own time: learning the tools, building, testing and fixing. Done-for-you costs more in cash and less in time. One provider, Jejo.ai, frames it as DIY tools at $50 to $300 a month vs a managed agent at $750 to $1,000 a month. That's a vendor's own comparison, not an independent figure.

Our DIY vs done-for-you guide covers what setting up agents yourself involves and where it gets hard.

What SCAIS costs

We set up and manage a team of AI agents on a Grok Bot account that your business owns. The SCAIS fee and the X bill are separate lines. We show an estimated total so you can budget, but X bills its part directly to you.

SCAIS fees and X's bill, shown as separate lines, by plan
Item Essentials Growth Scale
SCAIS management fee (paid to SCAIS) A$950/month A$1,350/month A$1,750/month
One-off setup fee (paid to SCAIS) A$600 A$900 A$1,350
Grok Bot plan and management seat (paid to X, on your bill; estimate) about A$195/month about A$195/month about A$345/month
Estimated monthly total (estimate; X sets its prices in US dollars) about A$1,145 about A$1,545 about A$2,095

The X line is an estimate. X sets its prices in US dollars, and the amount depends on the seat tiers and the exchange rate. Check X's pricing page. SCAIS doesn't bill X's costs. The setup fee is one-off and isn't in the monthly total.
